Once a rich businessman was robbed in the kingdom of King Akbar. The unhappy businessman went to court and asked for help. Akbar asks Birbal to help the merchant find the robber. The businessman told Birbal that he suspected one of his servants. On getting a signal from the merchant, Birbal called all the servants and asked them to stand in a straight line. When asked about the robbery, everyone refused to do it as expected. Birbal then handed over a stick of the same length to each of them. Distracting, Birbal said, "By tomorrow, the robber's stick will grow two inches". The next day when Birbal called everyone and inspected their poles, a servant's stick was two inches short. When asked by the merchant about the secret to finding the real thief, Birbal said, "It was simple: the thief had cut his stick two inches, fearing that it would grow in size".

Truth always prevails.

ek baar raaja akabar ke raajy mein ek ameer vyaapaaree ko loot liya gaya. dukhee vyaapaaree ne adaalat mein jaakar madad maangee. akabar ne beerabal se vyaapaaree ko daakoo ko khojane mein madad karane ke lie kaha. vyaapaaree ne beerabal ko bataaya ki use apane ek naukar par shak tha. vyaapaaree se sanket milane par, beerabal ne sabhee naukaron ko bulaaya aur unhen ek seedhee rekha mein khade hone ke lie kaha. jab dakaitee ke baare mein poochha gaya, to sabhee ne ummeed ke mutaabik ise karane se inakaar kar diya. beerabal ne phir usee lambaee kee ek chhadee, unamen se pratyek ko saump dee. vichalit karate hue, beerabal ne kaha, "kal tak, daakoo kee chhadee do inch badh jaegee". agale din jab beerabal ne sabhee ko bulaaya aur unake dande ka nireekshan kiya, to ek naukar kee chhadee do inch kam thee. asalee chor ko khojane ke rahasy ke baare mein vyaapaaree dvaara poochhe jaane par, beerabal ne kaha, "yah saral tha: chor ne apanee chhadee ko do inch kaat diya tha, yah dar tha ki yah aakaar mein badh jaega".
